2025 March Chicago Chapter Monthly Meeting

Mar 20: Managing Involuntary Separations: Strategies for Respectful Offboarding and Workplace Safety

Breaking Up Doesn’t Have to Be Hard: Managing Involuntary Separations with Confidence

Involuntary separations are tough—for the employee, the team, and the organization. But with the right approach, they don’t have to be chaotic or unsafe. At the March 2025 ASIS Chicago Chapter Meeting, Mr. Ahrens shared practical strategies to conduct respectful, secure offboarding—before, during, and after the conversation.

With over 20 years of experience and 50+ workplace violence assessments, Mr. Ahrens emphasized preparation, clear communication, and staying connected to former employees when appropriate. His recognized guide on involuntary separation, now referenced by DHS, provides tools and checklists to help organizations reduce risk and handle tough decisions with clarity.
